Our son has been attending classes at MAFL for over 2 years now. Master B and Mrs. B have been amazing, and we couldn’t be more pleased with our son’s progress. The team is supportive, positive and teach lessons to their students beyond just martial arts skills. We are so grateful for their programs and classes.
We have benefitted immensely from Martial Arts for Life for several years now. Our four children have improved their conditioning, poise and confidence under the guidance of Master B, Mrs B and their staff of outstanding young instructors. With a good balance of challenge, encouragement, high standards and a healthy dose of fun, they bring much more to each session than lessons on technique and form. Thank you MAFL!!
We love Martial Arts for Life. Mrs. B and Master B are super dedicated to the kids. They are creating a very respectful, helpful and nurturing environment for the kids to learn karate as well as how to be more confident. Love how they know every single kids’ name even from the beginning. My son looks up to all instructors and helpers. Thank you!
My son has been attending classes at Martial Arts for Life for over 10 years now. It was the best decision we ever made! Master & Mrs B are not only excellent instructors but also wonderful people. I have watched my son grow as a person physically and mentally. He is, in a large way, who he is because of MAFL. Strong, confident and a leader.
Martial Arts for Life is simply amazing! Master & Mrs. B have created an incredibly warm and engaging atmosphere for my son to learn. We have been fortunate enough to be part of the Martial Arts for Life family for over three years and my son still runs into class excited to learn, excited to challenge himself & excited to grow!
Our experience at MAFL has truly been amazing. Master B. has a wonderful way with the kids. He commands respect while also showing the students respect and kindness. Both my boys have been at MAFL for four years and are still very engaged and interested in progressing further, just recently having achieved their black belts. They look forward to going to each session, and certainly Master B., Mrs. B, and the dedicated student teachers have made it well worth it! Highly recommend it.
Both of my children grew up with Master and Mrs. B. We could not be more grateful! Master and Mrs. B. are excellent role models and have a talent for bringing people together and bringing out the best in their students. Pizza nights, 5k’s, town events, busy week night practices, and of course graduations helped our kids build confidence and character. One of the best decisions we made!
Martial Arts for life is fantastic. My son started there about 3 years ago. He has learned so much and has gained confidence in himself. Master and Mrs.B provide all of their students with a wonderful learning environment both in person and over Zoom. I was truly amazed at how they quickly transitioned to an online format this past spring to accommodate the stay at home orders. My son continued his training twice a week online and continued to learn at the same pace as before the pandemic hit. The studio is now open again and my son has returned to in person classes. He is absolutely thrilled to be back In person and continuing on his journey to be becoming a black belt. I highly recommend Martial Arts for Life!
1. FOCUS
2. CONTROL
3. TEAMWORK
4. BALANCE
5. MEMORY
6. FITNESS
7. DISCIPLINE
8. COORDINATION
Each class will cover at least one of the above skills. Each class consists of a warm-up, a mat chat covering a life skill, and a skill-building drill. Of course, the benefits of training at Martial Arts for Life go way beyond the 8 skills that are taught in class.
To better understand all that our Little Champions program offers, it is helpful to break down some of the program’s developmental milestones for children ages 5 & 6 years old.
The top social-development milestones include demonstrating good teamwork in competitive situations, showing self-control by not interrupting and having the focus to sit still when necessary.
The top physical-development milestones include demonstrating balance by performing multiple repetitions of kicks without putting the kicking foot down, showing good control while keeping the body in motion and exhibiting better fitness by performing exercises beyond five repetitions.
The top intellectual-development milestones include demonstrating good focus on the task at hand despite the presence of distractions, exhibiting good memory by retaining three commands (eventually more) in the proper order, and demonstrating coordination by performing a variety of strikes and kicks, as well as combinations that use both sides of the body.
The top emotional-development milestones include demonstrating self-discipline by following directions after being told once and not acting silly when performing activities that require leadership, as well as by showing sufficient control of the mind to work through challenging tasks.
The top cognitive-development milestones include pattern recognition and pattern design. When a child understands how to use pattern recognition techniques, she can comprehend how things are built and how they function. This type of learning helps kids transfer the knowledge from one skill to a different skill or subject. This is one of the most exciting parts of our program as we train our students to apply the skills and thinking processes they are developing in martial arts to their academics, sports, music and other skill-based activities.
Many children over age 7 participate in sports like soccer, basketball and baseball because they’re at developmental stages where they have the necessary skills to excel. At the same time children ages 6 and younger tend to struggle because coaches’ and parents’ expectations are typically very high, which means it not usually fun for the kids. They need a program that’s more developmentally appropriate and fun – and that is what our Little Champions program strives to provide.
Martial Arts for Life is one of approximately 300 Martial Arts schools worldwide that is proud to provide the Martial Artists Against Bullying curriculum to our students. The mission of MAAB is to educate, inform, and help eradicate bullying in our local communities.
Awareness, Avoidance & Assertiveness Training
Awareness – How to identify predatory behavior
Avoidance – Realistic ways to avoid being a target of bullying
Assertiveness – How to stop the bullying behavior
The goal of this program is to minimize the effects of predatory behavior in grade-school and middle school-aged children. This will be accomplished through role playing, small group discussions & physical training.
Self-Defense & Personal Protection
The self-defense benefits of our program could be described as “practice the fight so you don’t have to.” As your child trains he will become more confident in his ability to defend himself. As this confidence increases, his need to defend himself will decrease naturally because he will carry himself in a more confident manner. Our program includes preventative self-defense as well as physical self-defense. Your child will learn how to recognize potentially dangerous situations and how to avoid confrontations.
